Loan only to individuals who have a sizable investment in the asset they are requesting funds for (i.e. If it is a mortgage they are requesting&#8230;check the value of that home&#8230;their debt to income ratio&#8230;and make sure they have a sizable amount of equity tied up in the home&#8230;most hard money lenders like investments in which the person borrowing funds has at least 40% equity in the item they are borrowing on&#8230;these investors also like to hold the 1st mortgage position on real estate loans)&#13;<br />
<br />3.  Make sure professionals are involved in these transactions. (i.e. Accountants, Lawyers, Appraisers, Realtors, etc.)</p>

<p>Mr. Hitt interjects, &#8220;I can&#8217;t stress enough how important it is to involve professionals in these deals. Yes, it costs money to hire a lawyer to draft a mortgage contract but, at the end of the day, that contract will pay for itself many times over in the event you need to enact your rights within it to foreclose on a home.  Accountants can prove to be an invaluable resource also. Again, yes it is costly to hire an accountant still having them go over the financials of the deal you are about to invest in and having them catch something that you missed can prevent you from putting your carefully guarded funds into a sham of an investment. As investors, I am sure you would agree that paying $  300 to a lawyer or an accountant who advises against the deal you were going to enter into is a much better situation than losing $  100,000 by entering into that deal blindly.&#8221;</p>

<p> The organizers of the Monterey Bay Regional Business Plan Competition (http://www.MBRCompetition.com) today announced the launch of the 2012 Competition to be held on Friday, May 4th,  2012 at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS), with Congressman Sam Farr presenting the award to the final winner.</p>

<p>All start-ups that can show how they will create jobs in the tri-county area are welcome to apply.  The Monterey Bay Regional Business Plan Competition has the support of more than 50 business, education and government partners from the tri-county region that are united to showcase the business potential of the area; support regional start-ups; attract business and investors to the region; encourage business students to become entrepreneurs; and promote tech transfer, innovation and commercialization.</p>

<p>The competition begins with workshops throughout the region during February, with one-page applications due on February 27th, and culminates with a presentation event and the final event on May 4th.  Prizes range from $  1,000 cash for the winning student team, to $  5,000 cash for the winning main-street company, to $  50,000 in cash and professional services for the winning venture-play company.  A main-street company is defined as one that will be a successful local or regional business creating jobs in the tri-county area, but is not scalable to return 10 times the investor’s money in three to five years.</p>

Then, semifinalists will be chosen to move on in the competition and will be required to complete full business plans and compete in the final event on May 4th.</p>

<p>Few Spirits started distilling in June 2011, and began distribution in the Chicago area in August 2011. As a grain to glass distillery, Few does not use any neutral grain spirits, preferring to mash and ferment their spirit in house.  &#8220;By focusing our efforts on producing our alcohol in house, we control the quality of the spirit, and allows us to create our hand crafted spirits in ways that other distilleries simply cannot,&#8221; says Master Distiller Paul Hletko. &#8220;Our Few American Gin is a whiskey drinker&#8217;s gin and can even be served neat,&#8221; says Hletko.  &#8220;We are proud of our grain, and make every effort to make sure you can taste where the alcohol comes from &#8211; Midwestern grain, from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.&#8221;</p>
